Andrews Evangelism Team to Kenya 2007
October 10 2007 / ShareHim in Kenya B, May. 25 - Jun. 9 '07 #221by Glenn Russell
Personal Testimony of Glenn Russell.
During May and June 2007 a team of 10 students and three faculty from Andrews University responded to God's call to share the gospel in Nyamira, Kenya. Pastor Glenn Russell from the Department of Religion served as the coordinator and director of the team. Faculty members Dr. Lael Caesar and Brian Manley also conducted campaigns with the students at the twelve campaign sites. Elaine Manley, Andrews Academy faculty and former missionary to Kenya, led out in children's ministries and family life talks. The Andrews team consisted of students from many majors such as social work, biology, religion and theology. As they faced the challenges of preaching outdoors during the daily heavy rains, the students discovered much about faith and prayer. Wonderful daily worship times and diligent class sessions helped inspire and inform the team as they prepared to preach each evening. The joys of seeing individuals responds to the Gospel were compounded as eternal decisions were many by hundreds who attended the meetings. The final Sabbath was a high day as 1,353 individuals were baptized and joined God's global church family. Hundreds were interested in follow-up Bible studies which will be provided by local pioneers hired through funds left by the Andrews team who generously provided funds for local workers to continue nurturing and ministering these new believers for the next year. As a tired but thankful team departed from Kenya, they were thankful for what God had done. The trip concluded with a day's visit to the Masai Mara game park to witness the wonders of God's wildlife creation.
