God Works in Small Ways, Too

Personal Testimony of Andrew Lechler.

My name is Andrew Lechler and I recently went to Chiquimula, Guatemala on a mission trip. I had never been on a mission trip before so I did not know what to expect. I ended up preaching in San Luis, Guatemala in one of five churches in the San Luis area.

Over the course of 2 ½ weeks, I preached 19 sermons. Each night there would be one sermon with two a day on Sabbath. The amazing thing to me is that the only time I ever missed a sermon, it was always a previously planned event and it always came at a time when I was feeling too sick to preach. It seemed in some ways that God knew when my breaking points would be and acted accordingly.

Several times I felt I wouldn’t be able to preach but as soon as a stood up on stage, I would feel instantly better and my preaching went on as planned. One Tuesday, my translator was going to be unavailable and the church was planning on having the pastor speak at my church. On that day, all the strain and illness of the trip caught up with me. I don't believe that was a coincidence; I believe God knew when my breaking point would be and he provided a way ahead of time for me to take a much needed break.

All in all on this trip, I enjoyed meeting new friends and sharing Christ with wonderful people. I wouldn’t trade these memories for the world and I encourage everyone to go on one of these trips to see how God works in their personal lives…even if it is in the smallest of ways.
