“Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.” Psalm 5:2

Never before have I witnessed how effective the power of God can be through prayer. The power of prayer was not only visible during the meetings, but also in regards to my health and safety.

In Madagascar, my group and I had devotions every morning except on Saturdays. The first devotion was about the ABCs of prayer and was carried out by our group leader. The ABCs of prayer stood for asking, believing, and claiming. I was amazed that we could claim promises found in the bible. On the first night of the meetings, this method of prayer became very useful. The church site was about an hour away from my hotel. We left two hours before the meeting started in order to reach the church on time. However, the traffic was remarkably heavy and it seemed as though we were not going to arrive to the meetings on time. So my translator and I decided to pray and claim God’s promise. Immediately after praying, the traffic started to clear up. We reached the church with ten minutes to spare!

Also, while in Madagascar, I became sick for about a week. I was unsure of the cause of my illness. I had symptoms such as intense coughing, a light fever, and a runny nose. Just before arriving in Madagascar, I became aware that malaria medication was usually suggested before going to places in Africa. So I prayed to God and asked Him to protect me against malaria. Also, I had the support of family and friends praying for my health and safety. So when I became sick in Madagascar, I went to the doctor to inquire about the cause of my illness. Praise God, the cause was not malaria but simply a seasonal flu. In fact, while in Madagascar I did not receive a single mosquito bite.

There are many other instances where I witnessed the power of prayer. Going on this trip has taught me that prayer really works. Once we ask God, believe that He is omnipotent and claim His promises the impossible can become possible.

“The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.” Psalm 6:9
